PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dr. StelmachowiczTherefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come. . . 2 Corinthians 5:17 (LHS Theme Verse 2017-2018

Happy Birthday America!  I hope and pray you have an opportunity to reflect on our great nation and the blessing God has given us to live in this free nation.

July 4th usually signifies the midpoint of summer vacation.  Many people have asked me how I spend my summer break.  Summers for administrators are not so much of a break as they are a different time frame where we begin a backward calendar race to the first day of school for the coming year.  In this case the race is to Wednesday, August 16th.  Filling vacated faculty and staff positions, adding and subtracting courses from our curriculum, sprucing up the facility, and forging ahead on strategic plans (Capital Campaign) for the future of LHSKC are all portions of my Summer 2017.

New Courses.
Industrial Arts—we are extremely excited about the opportunity to offer shop classes for the 2017-2018 school year.  As we seek the right individual to teach these courses, we also await the exact course descriptions for the courses to be offered.  We have added over $20,000 of equipment to our building in our “new” wing.  Robotics opportunities will also be available to both our students and Calvary students as an ongoing exchange program with the Metro Homeschool Robotics, Inc.(MHR)  More information will be available at our Back to School BBQ on Friday, August 18th.  A representative from MHR will be available for some Q & A regarding this program.

Coding—a computer technology course where students will be exposed to the art of code.  Programs will teach students how to build Web Applications using languages such as HTML, CSS, Ruby, and Javascript.

Defending the Faith-a religion course designed to teach students rhetorical devices to utilize when speaking or writing about their Christian beliefs.
A 3D printer has also been acquired and will be utilized in a variety of computer and art courses.

New Staff.
Mrs. Betty Hathhorn.  Betty who is a licensed educational psychologist and holds an Education Specialist license as well will be serving LHSKC on a part time basis in 2017-18.  She will monitor several study halls and provide diagnostic intervention for students in need.

Jonah Schultz.  Jonah, a 2013 graduate of LHSKC and a recent graduate of Concordia Chicago, is coming home to teach in the area of English.  Jonah will be teaching English I and II as well as New Testament. Congratulations are in order as Jonah was recently married on June 30th.

Rick Ammons.  Rick is a retired teacher from Ft. Osage.  He will be teaching math part time.  Rick also is involved in the football program in Blue Springs.  The team just keeps getting stronger.

To God Be the Glory!

FYI….Practices begin July 31st so check the website in the next few weeks for the most recent updates.

In His Service,

                                                                                         Dr. Cary Stelmachowicz
