CURRENT ISSUES AND ETHICS

Content:              We will examine issues relevant to today's society with the ethics of the issue as our core exploration. Our tools will consist of various media sources and The Bible will always be the bottom line of reference. Students will learn to apply reasoning and objectivity to their critical thinking which will add a great tool to their resume. A critical look at the human condition will also be a part of our study as it relates to ethics and issues.

 

GOALS:                 The student who successfully completes this course will learn:

  • The difference between sound and unsound reasoning
  • How to maintain objectivity
  • How to use the "Serenity Prayer" to determine which issues are worth their time and energy
  • How to present a sound opinion

 

Evaluation:          Class participation is a major part of evaluation.

There are 20 points available each day  and will be awarded to each student who is attentive. This will compose approximately 40% of the grade. Catharsis papers and response papers will be worth 100 points each and there will be 8 to 10 of those. These will be approximately 60% of the grade. There will be a comprehensive final worth 20% of the final grade.
