LHS-KC Track Teams Run to State

Twelve Members of the Track Team Earn All-State Honors

On Friday and Saturday, May 19th and 20th, the Missouri State High School Activities Association sponsored the Missouri Class 1 State Track Meet at the Adkins Stadium, Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Lutheran High School of Kansas City had athletes in 15 events that qualified for State at the Sectional Track Meet in Camdenton on May 13th. The LHSKC Boys’ Team qualified athletes in the  100 meter, 200 meter, 3200 meter, and 4 x 800 Relay. The Girls’ Team had athletes that qualified in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 800 Meter, 3200 Meter, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Javelin, 4 x 100 Relay, 4 x 400 Relay, and 4 x 800 Relay.

Out of 56 Class 1 Boys Teams competing at State, the LHS Boys Team finished in 19th; the Girls Team finished in 21st out of 51 Teams. Medals are given to the top eight places in each event.

In Day 1 at the MSHSAA State Track and Field meet, the Lutheran High School of Kansas City boys got off to a strong start.

Headlining the Knights Boys Team’s success was Junior Christien Robins, who set the fastest time in the 100 meter on Friday to earn the number 1 spot in Saturday’s finals. Christien’s time of 11:30 seconds was not only the fastest time set by a runner in the 100 meter for the weekend, but was also the fastest time by any Missouri Class 1 runner in the event over the entire season, according to the trxctiming/MSHSAA performance lists. In Saturday’s finals Christien finished in third place. The 100 meter race had the top three runners in a photo finish with times of 11.41,11.41, and 11.42, putting Christien a mere 0.01 seconds away from the Gold and the top step of the podium.

Christien also qualified for the Finals in the 200 meters with a personal best time and received a Bronze Medal in that event on Saturday, as well, with a time of 23.31.

Knights’ Coach Dan Bickel was happy with the achievements of all of his runners.

Lutheran High’s 4x800 Relay Team consisting of Senior Aaron Boatman, Sophomore Christian Hinrichs, and Freshmen Jackson Horn and Christian Hernandez qualified in the preliminaries to move on to Saturday’s meet, reaching the podium in an eighth place finish.

The team ran their best race of the season, beating the time set in Sectionals by 2 seconds.

Senior Aaron Boatman also ran in the 3200 meters on Saturday and finished in tenth place.

But the Lutheran High Boys weren’t the only LHSKC athletes to make waves in the state capital on Friday.

For the Lutheran High School Girls, it was Senior Emma Bearden who reached the podium first. Emma ran her personal best time of 12.91 seconds to qualify in the 100 meter on Friday and then finished in 5th place on Saturday.

The 4 x 100 Relay team of Seniors Mickie Klatt and Emma Bearden, Sophomore Lauren Gruber, and Freshman Julia Gire made it to the podium with a third place finish. The team ran a 52.40 time in the race.

Mickie also contributed to the 4 x 800 Relay team of Mickie, Junior Anne Thomas, Sophomore Madison Chiappetta, and Freshman Lauren Ada who qualified and finished in 6th place.

Also competing at the State Meet were Molly Miller in the Long Jump (16th), Julia Gire in the Triple Jump (14th), Madison Chiappetta in the 800 meter (9th) and 3200 meter (13th), Lauren Ada in the 400 meter (14th), and Ally Ebert in the Javelin (14th).
