LHSKC Senior Signs to Play Tennis

LHS-KC Senior Lanae Shelly will soon graduate from high school,  and she is ready to enter the competitive world of college tennis.  Lanae is headed to Baker University.

Lanae, the daughter of Gary and Evonne Shelly, has attended 4 years at the Lutheran High School of Kansas City and has participated in Tennis for three years. Now, Lanae has announced that she will play next year for the Baker University Wildcats.

Lanae accepted an Athletic Scholarship to play tennis at Baker at a Signing Ceremony with Baker head tennis coach Joe Ahmadian at Lutheran High School on Tuesday, April 26. In attendance, along with her parents, were Principal Dr. Cary Stelmachowicz, Athletic Director Lee Rudzinski, Tennis Coach Mark Mills, Counselor Bud Yazel, fellow members of the 2015-2016 Lady Knights Tennis Team and a number of her school friends.

Baker University is located in Baldwin City, Kansas. Baker, an NAIA school, has been a member of the Heart of America Athletic Conference since the organization's inception in 1971. The conference consists of 10 schools in four states and sponsors 19 sports.  The schools are located in southwest Iowa, southern Nebraska, eastern Kansas and throughout Missouri. Head Coach Joe Ahmadian just finished his third season as the Wildcats head tennis coach. Ahmadian took both the men's and women's tennis programs at Baker from a last-place finish in the HAAC in 2011 to a third-place finish in 2012. He played for the Baker Tennis team from 2003 through 2007.

Lanae graduates from Lutheran High with a 3.6 GPA. She plans to Major in Psychology.
