Senior Noah Werts Signs to Play Soccer at Concordia

LHSKC Senior Noah Werts has made the decision to be a Bulldog in the fall. He will play soccer at Concordia University, Nebraska.

Noah is the son of Dale and Sally Werts of Edgerton, Missouri. He has attended 4 years at the Lutheran High School of Kansas City and has participated in Baseball and Soccer. On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, Noah announced that he will play Soccer for the Concordia Bulldogs in Seward, Nebraska.

Noah accepted an Athletic Scholarship to play Soccer at Concordia at a Signing Ceremony at Lutheran High School on Wednesday, March 29. In attendance were his parents, LHSKC Soccer Coach Anne Murphy, Principal Dr. Cary Stelmachowicz, Athletic Director Lee Rudzinski and a number of his friends and teammates.

Founded in 1894 by The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Concordia University, Nebraska is a private, coeducational institution of higher learning. The main campus is located in Seward, Neb. (population 7,000), about 25 miles west of Lincoln, the state capitol. The graduate school and degree completion program are based in Lincoln. Concordia University, Nebraska is an excellent academic and Christ-centered community equipping men and women for lives of learning, service and leadership in the church and world.

Concordia is an NAIA school in the Great Plains Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) consists of 11 private, faith-based colleges and universities in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. Originally founded in 1969 as the Nebraska Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC), the league retains four of the six charter members - Concordia, Doane, Hastings, and Midland. The University of Jamestown (ND) will join the GPAC in 2017-18.

Noah will play soccer for Concordia Soccer Coach Jason Weides. Coach Weides completed his ninth season at the helm of the Bulldog men's soccer program in 2016. He spent several years as an assistant for the men's team before becoming head coach. (He also spent time at Kearney High School where he was an assistant coach from 2003-05, helping the team to its first state tournament appearance since 1998.) Weides is 81-75-17 overall and 40-44-10 in the GPAC in his career. Under Weides, Concordia has won 10 or more games in six-consecutive seasons (64-42-12 over that stretch) - a feat only two other GPAC schools have accomplished.

Coach Weides is a native of Kearney, NE and an alumnus of Concordia. While attending school at Concordia, he played soccer and was a four-year letter winner for the Bulldogs. He was named to the honorable mention all-conference team as a sophomore and was a second team selection as a senior in 2001.

Noah graduates from Lutheran High with a 3.09 GPA. He plans to major in Business Administration and English. Lutheran High School congratulates Noah on this outstanding accomplishments and wishes him God’s richest blessings on his future plans.
