April 7th Devotion from The Lutheran High School of Kansas City

2 Peter 3, verse 8

The Lutheran High School of Kansas City will be providing devotions for use during your daily Bible time. Today's Devotion is based on verses from 2 Peter, chapter 3.

In the last days scoffers will come...They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised?...everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”. . . But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a   thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.    2 Peter 3:3-4, 8-9

Do You Like to Wait?

Are we there yet?

Is dinner ready?

How long until my birthday?

How many days until spring?

When will the “Stay at Home” order be revoked?

Since we were children it seems every day we have had to wait for something.  Sometimes it seems to take so long.  We get frustrated, or we feel like quitting.  When we wait for a happy event like a birthday or Christmas, the closer we get to the time, the longer it seems to take.

We even wait for God to do things He has promised to do.  We wait for Jesus Christ to come and take us to heaven, and we wait for answers to our prayers.  Sometimes we wonder why it seems to take so long.

But God isn’t slow or forgetful.  Instead, He is patient and wise.  He is waiting for just the right time to make His move.  Before He answers a prayer, He makes sure that everything is ready.  Before Christ comes back to take us to heaven, He waits patiently for nonbelievers to become Christians so they won’t be condemned.

People in Old Testament days waited a long time for the Savior to be born at Bethlehem.  Finally, Jesus came to take away the sins of the world.  The people were happy they had trusted God and had waited patiently.  Waiting may be hard for us, but it’s good for us.  It means that God loves us enough to wait for just the right time to help us.

Dear Heavenly Father:
Thank You that You do what You have promised at just the right time.  Help us trust You and wait patiently for You to act.  We know that You are a good and perfect God.  Because of man’s sin, there is much suffering in this world.  Right now, God, we are suffering physically and emotionally.  Please be with each and every one of us.  Give us patience and understanding, rest and comfort, and help us wait for Your perfect timing. If it is Your will, Lord, bring us back to our “family” at Lutheran High and help us be living witnesses of the love and mercy you shower upon us.  In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
