The Lutheran High School of Kansas City will be providing devotions for use during your daily Bible time. Today's Devotion is based on Jeremiah 29:11.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Jeremiah 29:11

For those of us who have never had a serious or life-threatening illness, we cannot even imagine what many in this world are going through. But there is someone else who does understand. God is with us every day of our lives; through the good times AND the bad. He shares and understands our joys and our sorrows; our celebrations and our suffering. He is right beside us, holding our hands, promising to never leave us.

We worry about our lives and often wonder why bad things happen; car accidents, miscarriages, cancer, pandemics. When times like this come up in my life, I look to Jeremiah 29:11. Here, we are reminded that God is in control. He has a plan for our lives and promises that everything that happens to us is to give us hope and an even brighter future. And don’t forget, God is specific about the types of plans he has for us; “plans to prosper you and not to harm you.”

Stay strong. Put yourself in God’s hands. Remember that He will never give you more than you can handle. He is always right beside you, especially when you need Him the most.

Heavenly Father, we don’t always understand what is going on in our lives. Please continue to remind us that you have everything planned. You know what is best for us and, even though we may not always realize it, it is through the tough times in our lives that we are able to grow closer to you. Please keep your healing hands on us all and help remember that all of this is in your plan to give us hope and a future. Amen.
