Tuition & Fees

2008-09 Tuition

Tuition for 2008-2009 is $6645.00 for all students except those who are members of churches belonging to the Lutheran High School Association of Greater Kansas City.  Tuition is $5795.00 for students who are members of association churches in good standing and $6295.00 for students from all other association churches. A 20% tuition discount is available for each additional child in multi-student families.  Tuition may be paid in 1, 2, 4, or 12 payments.

2008-09 International Tuition Amount Rationale

The tuition for international students at Lutheran High School of Kansas City is higher than American students. The main reasons for the tuition difference are church contributions from American parents and their involvement in school fundraising. Parents of international students are not involved in either of these activities. The distance from home makes it impossible.

The per-pupil cost of education for a student at Lutheran High School is $9260 per year. International students are asked to pay just under the full cost of education.

American students and their families pay $6645 per year. American families are required to pay a $350 Book and Activity Fee and a Registration Fee of $275. This totals $7270 for each American student.

The parent-paid tuition is enhanced by the contributions of their respective churches totaling $125,000. School families are involved in our three major fundraising events, too. The school auction adds $55,000, “Bids for Kids” financial gifts total $76,500 and our golf tournament nets $14,000 each year.

We expect our enrollment to be at least 110 for 2008-09 school year. By adding the church contributions, school auction, “Bids for Kids” and golf tournament together the school recieves a total of $270,500. If we divide this total by the expected enrollment of 110 the result is $2,459. Adding $2,459 to the tuition rate and fees of $7270 we reach $9,729 per pupil that American families provide.

As a result of the reasons listed above our International Student Tuition for 2008-09 will be $9000.  There is no Book and Activity Fee or Registration Fee charged to International students.

Tuition paid is non-refundable under any circumstances.

All tuition must be in the hands of the school bookkeeper prior to the student beginning each semester's classes. First semester begins in mid August and second semester begins immediately after the Christmas and New Year vacations. The exact dates will be listed on the official school calendar for 2008-09.

Home stay costs are decided upon with the foreign exchange program agent and distributed through the agent, unless special arrangements are made through the Lutheran High School Principal.
